POS Hold and RTH only work with level mode activated, just as MAG needs to be enabled for it to turn during RTH.

Seem like you use Aux2 switch to enable Level mode
You could also put a dot at AUX1 M & H for LEVEL, so when you activate AUX1 (GPS), it will automatically also enable LEVEL.
Then you don't need to manually activate level through AUX2.

Just to be clear..... You WILL need a magnetometer, active or not, to have GPS navigation.
Without a magnetometer/compass, the copter does not know, in which direction is home, as it does not know the way it is pointing.. The GPS only tells it for example 50 meters towards the southwest..... but that is no good, if the copter does not know where is southwest. The compass / magnetometer is the only one telling that.

If you activate the compass during RTH, your copter will turn towards home as it comes towards you.
With compass off, it will come towards you, but will keep pointing to where it was pointing before (so it will fly sideways or backwards, or whatever is needed to come 'home').
MAG OFF means the compass is still providing readings, only the multiwii software will no longer use it to ensure the copter stays pointing in the same direction. The GPS will still need the data....

yes i added level & mag to poshold and rth with aux1, but i also added althold,

do you know if this is ok, what effect this has ? (i did fly with, but want your opinion/experience on what effect it will have)

Althold during RTH / Poshold is just a matter of taste.
I've got baro and mag each on individual switches, as it can be used independent of GPS functions. It might be usefull if you only have a 5 or 6 channel radio to combine them.

I see GPS also as some kind of recovery function if I loose orrientation (which happens quite a lot). Even if I cannot recognize front / rear / left / right anymore, altitude is always clear, especially in relation to trees and other obstacles, no matter how far away it is.

that what i want it for too, recently i had to use it but it didnt work (well it couldnt make it back to me against the breeze) so i need to tune it more to make it stronger.

height thing i agree, maybe on separate switch as sometimes it fly over trees if i loose it and then i cant keep it at height above them so baro will help till i get it back.

is there a landing action ? where once at home it lowers to ground ? would be good maybe.
