Im so confused!! noob quad help.

Post by flyguy »

i put together a Paris v4 board with arduino mini pro 328 5v, wm+ and nk. im using a CC 10A bec, 30a plush esc and D2830-11 1100kv Brushless Motors.

Couple Questions

1. noticed today it builds up a drift to the left and back after awhile(in acc mode). i have to land and recal the gyro. any fix for this? is this a ACC thing?

2. noticed another thing. when i go to cal the ACC (from TX or software) sometimes the board locks up and the activity LED stays on. is there a special way to cal it correctly?

3. should i set thee MAXTHROTTLE in the code to the max throttle i have in the gui? (1905)

4. The quad rotates very slow. what should i adjust the YAW to? how to big of an increment should i make? 0.2 or 2? how do the values correspond to the speed? which column would i adjust?

5. do you have to do a tx cal for gyro and acc everytime you plug in a lipo or just have to do a tx cal for the gyro only?

I attached a screen shot of my GUI. I am running 1.9 firmware. Thanks for the help.

It seems this problem occurs when using a wmp+ gyro. Replacing it with a ITG3200 did the trick for me. No more gyro drift. -> viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2019

2. noticed another thing. when i go to cal the ACC (from TX or software) sometimes the board locks up and the activity LED stays on. is there a special way to cal it correctly?

thats very strange, are you sure you do not get i2c errors? try to use Multiwii 2.0 or above.
3. should i set thee MAXTHROTTLE in the code to the max throttle i have in the gui? (1905)

as far as i know this depends to your esc.
4. The quad rotates very slow. what should i adjust the YAW to? how to big of an increment should i make? 0.2 or 2? how do the values correspond to the speed? which column would i adjust?

yaw rate(the right colum at yaw section), try small increases, and test. (i think 0.2 steps should be fine)
5. do you have to do a tx cal for gyro and acc everytime you plug in a lipo or just have to do a tx cal for the gyro only?

you do not need to calibrate gyro or acc everytime. Gyro autmatically calibrates after power connect. (Do not move you copter until Led stops blinking)

Hope this helped a bit.

you´re welcome
ok, to make things more clear,
gyro is calibrated everytime you connect your board to power. ACC should be calibrated when the copter is standing in perfect level. You may use the GUI or the stick combinations to do so. This settings will be stored and used as "leveled position".
When flying in Levelmode (ACC active) you may encounter some angle offset. Not over time, but right after starting your copter.
This would be the situation, where you have to trim your acc. (Do this by stick combinations, not your transmitter trim. Transmitter trims should only be used for gyro only "acro mode")
Maybe have a look at http://www.multiwii.com/faq
This may help with freezes you encountered http://www.multiwii.com/faq#The_GUI_see ... connection

okay cool. i updated to MultiWii_dev_20120522. i cleared the eeprom first before updating. when i went to cal the acc through the gui i used a bubble gauge to make sure it was level. im going to see if it solves the drift. before when i take off i had no drift at all so i guess the trims are okay. i was a gradual thing. i upped the YAW to 0.3. i will try to test it tomorrow. thanks.

okay still no go. i think the NK ACC is crap. i can fly with it off with no issues. as soon as i flip it on this this locks anything other then level. not sure what to do. need to up the YAW still. 0.3 is still too slow.

Hey flyguy before you rule out that acc try lowering that level P to 4.5 instead of 9.0 !
