Mono-Phan Technology With Multiwii

Post by un.rcont.ol »

The new module with multiwii flight controller.
The landing gear was modified to handle the weight better.
The setup was changed to make it suitable with the multiwii.
No long flights so far, just a couple of hover tests. Waiting for a new ubec for better power feed to the board.
The controller has mag, baro, autolevel, headfree, etc…
Hoping to test it soon after perfecting the PID calibration…

Not sure its the most practical aircraft but I sure admire the engineering that went into getting that to work.

EDFs are not the most efficient choice for hovering - what are your plans for using this ship?

Thanks for the comments guys!

Check the sport version video below. It is a great sport flyer as it is:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10Lu_zsCuAY

When I complete the integration with Multiwii, I will be able to take it to 50-60 degrees attack angles confidently, without worrying about the stall. That will provide a great speed and a lot of fun...

Last test against headwind:

Plus, still working on improving the flight time.

Tough project:)

CrossWing module maiden test with Multiwii & 5S setup
- New carbon frame and setup,
- New 5S batteries
- Newly adapted Multiwii controller
After playing with PID a little bit this machine turned into a beauty. The video have several landings and takeoffs, to make sure the new 80A ESC is not overheating. It held pretty well, after frying the 60A on LLRV module last week.
Mag worked without any problems. I was comfortable enough to take a couple of small spins around the park towards the end of the test. Considering the flight time that I got with multiple takeoffs, the new setup with 5S batteries will probably provide over 5 minutes flight time in an uninterrupted flight.
Pretty happy with the results…

Amazing new 64mm module's first flight video!

4s setup with multiwii turned out to be a real beauty.

Extremely stable and quick with about 5 minutes hover time!!!

At the the 3 minute mark you will see some wobbling in the close up flight video, which was corrected with PID settings (see the rest of the video)...

I will post some amazing flight videos of this beauty soon...

Here's a better video! Consistently speeding up the flight... Will soon reach the first target which is a consistent/sustainable high speed flight and maneuvering at 50 degree tilt angle...

It is so agile and quick on the maneuvers, yet so stable and capable for its single fan design, I will have a lot of fun with it:)

Thanks Hamburger...

The weight of this 64mm unit is around 650gr with 2 x 1300mah batteries. Flight time is about 4.5 minutes. It's pretty quick but I didn't measure the speed. However, soon it will get as fast as an edf jet... Slowly but surely I am increasing the flight tilt angle...

High speed flight video! Turned the mag off for high speed flight and got amazing results… Watch past 2nd minute of the video…

Flying at 50 degree attack angle and over!

How it works for Yaw compensation ? do you have 2 Fan inside ? or is it a SingleCopter ?

It's a single copter. The first stage thrust control (between the fan and the vectoring nozzle) is a yaw module that works with vanes...

Amazing flight maiden video of this one of a kind flying machine.

I tested the stabilization, maneuver capabilities and flight time.

I am very pleased: 7 minutes flight time, amazing sound and very balanced…

Some pics and second flight... Switched the front 90 deg, reduced weight slightly...

This machine has a sound out of a science fiction movie... Love it!

Forgot to set the timer before flight, so cut the flight short... Normally gets close to 7 minutes...

Going through some old files, I came across to the last footage of my twin unit that I never published. This has been one of the most reliable and balanced units:
