MultiWii v2.1 GUI Improvements...

Post by Magnetron »

Hi,
I am concentrating on development improvements on some GUI functionality.
I introduced a new graphical control on the GUI: the virtual horizon.
I will post as soon as possible the new interface so Alex can add to official repository.
Alex, right?

You should try using google code or similar for hosting.
It takes like 20 minutes to download that file.

Download for me felt like under 1 minute. No problem.
Graphics look nice. Want to turn it into full featured base station?

Nice..

But a tip.
Replace rxtxSerial.dll with this version in windows versions in the exported application.

It works better if you have a computer with BlueTooth.

Bluetooth can cause serial enumeration to take a LONG time. Since the GUI does a serial enumeration at startup, it can appear to hang while launching. For several minutes. Most people don't wait, they just assume it is 'broken' on their computer.

I'm assuming the dll suggested by Patrick speeds this up when a bluetooth stack is present.

Also it took a little longer to initialise COM ports, the appearance is more appealing than previous GUI.

I like your modifications! Good work.

But i have a problem with the port selection. Not all ports are listed with your new version: (same systems, only different gui's)
PortBug.png

What a about some tooltips? I think it could greatly help noobs to understand the gui e.g. what's the Horizon and Angle mode, what does "T P A" stands for, what's the range of a parameter and so on. Maybe we could start with abbreviations and include generalized links to the mwc wiki for further informations (like http://www.multiwii.com/wiki/index.php? ... iConf_XXXX e.g. http://www.multiwii.com/wiki/index.php? ... Conf_T_P_A or http://www.multiwii.com/wiki/index.php? ... Angle_Mode)

Here is a WORK IN PROGRESS of the Joystick integration, it is functional using the E_sky Simulator FMS controller however, any ADC joystick should work. At present, there is no error checking and it assumes there is a controller connected to the computer.

I modified the GUI to send serial RC data via the serial port and enable RCSERIAL in the MWC 2.1 firmware. I added two 2D sliders representing the control sticks. If anyone would like to pick up the ball and run with it, PLEASE DO, just share please.

I posted the wrong freaking code to GitHub, here is the right code attached, will need to do some more learning on how to use Github.

To use and compile this script, this library is required: http://creativecomputing.cc/p5libs/procontroll/

Cool - but don't bring the git/svn conversation here!! I would have to agree its technically better - but more of a learning experience.

So whats the scoop - are you looking to control the copter from PC/joystick over bluetooth / data modem. I saw similar in EZgui - but didn't have the balls to try it out!

Does the joystick layout work from the joystick input- or use the pitch/roll/throttle/yaw values. Ezio did a nice job on the android depiction stick positions.

Right now, this will serve as a development tool but the goal is to create a specialized transmitter for the MWC. I have on order a couple of Serial to Wifi transceivers and this just seems to be the next logical step.

P.S. as for the git/svn debate, No, I had no plans of continuing that debate here. However, I try to see both sides on issues like this but unless I have knowledge about both, it is hard to be impartial. So I am trying to learn how to use Git.
