r1058 - horizon mode

Post by shikra »

@ Alex

Put this on a Tri and it just spins around on yaw.
After a little debug looks like the issue is eeprom yaw address picking up garbage value so might want to force a default load or something.

will test FPV tomorrow - feels nice in garden.

Tried it on a quad, didn't go so well. Did ok for about 45 secs and then seemed to go haywire. Went back to 2.1 and quad was flying fine.

I have not tried acro with horizon mode enabled but it fly much nicer than with old level mode and did not experience any problems using it. I never really liked (old) level mode.... :)

2 * 15 minute FPV flights in horizon mode today.

I think those that like flying FPV in level mode will will like it. It''s kind alike level mode, and the weird effects of angle mode are still apparent, but to much less an effect.

This is a great addition. For FPV or not...

When the stick are centered, there should be no difference with ANGLE (or previous LEVEL) mode.
So It shouldn't be worse than the previous mode.
Can you develop a little bit more ?

After further testing, I do not think it was the new code that caused my issues but, some unrelated hardware troubles. I am currently adding FPV gear to an H-Quad and will try horizon mode on it shortly.

Thanks for all the effort.

tried it yesterday evening, quadx / nanowii / simonk 20a

on dev version angle mode on slow yawing during fast descent i got 2-3 times really strange glitches, suddenly it was turning really fast than i was yawing with the stick, definitly something wrong, on horizon mode i couldnt reproduce this.but in both angle or horizon mode i noticed a strange drift in hover,
about after 3 secs handsfree hover it tilts a few degrees in a random direction and stays until i countersteer.

after that went back on 2.1 release with same PIDs/config.h settings, everything is fine.

flew well in acc mode. Activated horizon mode via tx switch -> copter capsized immediatelly and crashed. End of experiment.
Need to fix broken parts first before further tests and info.
maybe relevant: acc+horizon both active when crashing - because tied to separate switches.

Hi,

Sorry for all bugs when HORIZON+ANGLE is activated at the same time.
It's now fixed in the last dev.
in this case HORIZON MODE is chosen.

Hi Alex,
Pay attention about Angle and Horizon enabling using 2x16 char serial display.
Now on display I do not found Angle and Horizon options, but only old "LEVEL" option, so enabling this will enable Horizon and if Angle is already enabled by GUI, display will force Horizon too.
Bye, Carlo
