Inversense 12C gyro, ACC & Mag in one chip

Post by brewski »

Just came across this & already being used on multicopter flight controllers http://www.invensense.com/mems/gyro/doc ... 50A-01.pdf

This chip has 16bit precision, can reduce cost & more importantly MotionFusion processor for realtime integration of sensor data without firmware support.

Mwii resolution is limited to ancient devices.

The popular 6050 accel resolution is 8 times better than what mwii uses, and the gyro resolution is 4 times better. It doesent make any sense to have a 16 bit sensor but use only 10 bit. The 6050 can also do onchip sensor fusion, but i have never seen someone actually using this. As good as 16bit sounds, you wont feel any difference with actual firmware.

Other firmwares like baseflight DO use full sensor resolution today and i think will quickly adapt to new sensors as they become available.

I agree the days of 8bit are definitely numbered.
