Baro and Mag with WM+ and NK on Paris 3.0?

Post by furyphoto »

I have a Paris V3.0 board with a genuine NK and WM+, I would like to add a baro and Mag.

- Is it possible to add the BMP085 and HMC5883 to the NK and WM+ (I have only ever seen the Baro and Mag with the BMA180)
- Do I need to add an LLC to add the Baro & Mag (if so does anyone have a Sparkfun Part # for it? or where do I get one?)
- If this info already exists, can someone please point me to it, I have done a bunch of searching and have not been able to find the answers I am looking for.

Thanks!

Andrew

Hi,
This should be possible to mix WMP+NK+mag+baro.
I think an LLC is not necessarily needed is everything is powered via 3.3V and if you disable internal pullups.

It's however a setup I've never seen so far.
In most case, the first improvement consists in upgrading the ACC for a standalone one, and then adding mag+baro.

Thanks Alex!

My copter is flying great with the WM+ and NK so as far as the standalone ACC, I figured if it ain't broke, don't fix it. (also really smooth with the DEV software!)

Right now I am powering the WM+ and NK from the 4.5 (pin4) feed on the Paris 3.0 board, as shown in the Multiwicopter.com Wiki. Do I need to change it to 3.3 if I add the Baro and ACC?

is it correct that I DO NOT bridge the solder pads on the back of the board for this?

Thanks,

Andrew

So I finally got around to ordering the bits. (been busy playing with my DJI :) )

Can I just hook up the sensors directly to the board and disable the internal pullups?

Right now I have the WM+ running from the 4.5v, do I need to switch it to t3.3 as well?

Like this, or change WM+ to 3.3 as well?

Hello Andrew,

You probably have an arduino wich likes 5V levels and baro/mag wich likes 3.3V so i would order a LLC to convert the baro and mag levels from 3.3 to 5volt. leave the rest as is. I have it this way although on a fluyduino and works good. With LLC its recommended to activate internal pullups in software.
LLC can be bought here: http://www.sparkfun.com/products/8745

Thanks for the reply, although I am now confused as Alex suggested I did not need a LLC (I assume he knows what he is talking about) Just to confirm, we are talking about the voltage on the i2c bus, not the VCC to the components correct?

Ofcourse Alex is right ;) if All levels are 3.3V. If your arduino is 5V then it likes 5V sda/scl lines so to create these the sure way is to have a LLC converter. Your sensors don't like 5V levels and may even stop working :o . There are resistermods and the like but i have never seen a clear schematic.
Anyway this is my schematic wich involves the LLC and has no i2C errors!:
