[Q]Conformal Coating the FC

Post by linuxslate »

Has anyone thought of/or done conformal coating of the Flight Controller?

I assume that most of us that are running multiwii are running on bare boards.

I don't have a big landing gear, and my Crius AIO Pro is on the lower deck of my frame.

Add to that morning dew on the grass, and 4 props that spraying the dew around, and I have seen droplets on my board.

Of course it would be necessary to protect the openings in the Barometer, and I would mask off all of the connectors, but other than that does anyone see any problems conformal coating the board?

I would be using a spray can of AR Kon Form.

Thoughts?

Did you ever spray the board? I was thinking about doing this myself.

I have not done so yet.

1. There were no replies to this thread.

2. While it is not that difficult to pull the FC out of my Quad, there is not currently any other reason to do so. My Quad is flying well, and often, and I just don't want to take the FC out at the moment.

3. My can of Konform AR is very old (>15 yrs). I probably should buy a new can.

I did recently have to repair an OSD wiring harness (Video battery voltage divider - My video voltage was all over the place.) If I need to do a similar repair on/near the FC, I'll go ahead and pull it, mask the Baro, and spray it.

Aside: I never did find anything visibly wrong in my Video Battery lead / voltage divider. All solders looked good and shiny. I re-heated some of the connections, and re-installed the heat shrink tubing, and now it is stable -- Moisture inside the heat shrink? Perhaps I should Konform AR my voltage divider.
