Hey Guys, just learned the hard way that the Ebay version of the MPU6050 requires a logic lever on the I2C line. If you are experiences problems, try using a logic lever.

Edited: Problem maybe related to the Enhanced Pro-Mini that I am using and will have to invest more time to find out for sure.

The problem turned out to be something else and not the 6050. All is well.

I an building one using this. As long as you disable internal pullups (the default), it should work fine. I did compare with using logic level converter and did not see any difference. There is a version on eBay with the level converter built in for $12.50. The module has bult in 3.3v regulator so you only need to supply the 5v and leave 3.3v pin unconnected.

The AVR sda and scl line are open drain and designed this way precisely so it can be used with external pullup to 3.3v which the 6050 module has.

Either you did not wire it properly or you enabled internal pullups.

Well, from my experience, it will work but will have a hard time with the PID tuning. I have an enhanced Pro-Mini that has a selectable voltage switch between 3.3 and 5 volts. When I first build Mini-Mollie, I had this switch set to 3.3volts mistakenly. She flew beautifully and one day, I saw it was set to 3.3 volts and changed it to 5 volts. Well, she picked up one hell of a wobble and almost impossible to fly. Changed it back to 3.3volts and she became her sweet loveable self again. Hmmm.

I cannot imagine the I2C voltage level will have any influence on the control...

Admittedly, it may just be something with the Enhanced Pro-Mini.
