Promini + Mongoose as sensorboard only possible?

Hi there, i just switched from aeroquad to multiwii. I have several different boards & sensors available. I started up with a Seeduino mega + Razor 6DOF (analog) which seems to work (although i'm not sure if i get too many vibrations to the gyros).
I also have a mongoose 9DOF board which i would like to run with a promini. The mongoose seems already to be supported. But with the MWC Firmware flashed onto the Atmel on the mongoose board. I would like to have more io pins available (and i didn't have a ppm sum receiver) so i would like to use a promini as Controller and just the i2c sensors on the mongoose as external sensors. Im not very familiar with i2c - is it possible to communicyte with the sensors directly or does it interfere with the AVR chip on the mongoose?
If it works, How do i have to setup the sensors? Include each sensor manually in the config.h instead of using the mongoose directive?
Thanks & best regards,
Ben
