Battery Backup for GPS

I have a question, not knowing what is available in way of GPS units with a battery backup, I would like to ask what are some means of accomplishing this task? Reason I ask is, I have two 4800 bauds units now for testing etc. and they take a considerable amount of time to lock on the required Satellites. Once they are locked, they are good to go until there is a power reset. So I would like to know, what harm is there to power these GPS or any GPS unit continuously so they are ready on demand.

Thank you.

I power my Flyduino GPS board with its own 2S 800mAh battery.
On flight day I use my desk top computer to make all the changes MW needs to get out of it.
I then leave it plugged in almost 5 hours some days. And it is nice having instant lock out at the field.
