MEGA 2560 MWC + 10DOF @ only 69$

Post by dr.tom »

just stumbled upon this one... :o
might be good before MWC transition to 32bit architecture...

sensor board is separated so it can be dampened from vibrations, (like other well developed boards from warthox, and australian paris boards)
IMHO better than previous goodluckbuy solutions, where the whole board had to be dampened, but with many cables connected to it, it was not so practical...

Heh I managed to get one of these ordered when it was only $50 from eBay. The seller hiked his price $20 as soon as I'd bought one.

The IMU is actually a FreeIMU 0.3.5 bmp as designed by Fabio - and yes I love what they've done with the 4 mounting holes around the Mega.

I'm really impressed with a lot of the FCs and IMUs coming out of China at the moment. Those Crius boards were a bargin when everything similar was $150+ they came out at $60.

Then 10 DOF IMUs again all about $100 and now you can get a 10 DOF with MPU6050 for $50 - everything that I've received and tested so far has been of a very good quality also. The MPU6050 10 DOF board that arrived yesterday (GY_86) is just lovely. It's just so small and puts out such clean signals.

there's lots of info on the board's website mpuav.com - if you can make sense of the google translate lol.

Looks like the board has been designed by a group of keen quad fliers as opposed to just being churned out by the factories.

They also acknowledge the source of the software and firmware they use - which makes a change.

How does it perform in air? (mega + freeimu GoodluckBuy combo for 70$)
Can it fly only by defining MegaBoard and sensors in config, or needs some more code tuning...
asking because promini had some difficulties with it... viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1619&p=13360#p13360

Thanks :)

Best MultiWii board I've ever flown.

Only need to define FreeIMU 0.3.5bmp in the code MEGA is auto detected.

I've been flying GPS Dev code on it perfectly. Really good value controller.

I did this diagram - should help a bit;

MEGA uses the first 4 PWM inputs for motors (in Quad) and serial 1 if you use PPM Sum for your Rx.

Oh and you'll need 4 6mm nylon pillars and screws bolts etc to mount the IMU (they're not included) - You'll also need to drill the 4 3mm holes around the IMU. Use a press if you have one and start with a 1mm bit then a 2mm then the 3mm - cover the Baro with a little tape so it doesn't get full of fibreglass dust and don't breathe it in.

From the diagram by Katch looks like one can connect 8 motors plus 3 servos for camera? is this possible?

yeah with this pirate board its a good price for mega 2560

only thing im wondering about is the IMU specs dont list gyro's anywhere. just accels. how would this affect things multi rotor related ??

The MPU6050 is both Gyro and Acc combined into one chip.

either way it looks like it does but who ever wrote the original spec sheet which was copy pasted out accross the nets missed the gyros as the FreeIMU 0.3.5 bmp board pictured as included does include gyros if you go to the guys website who makes the IMU and check his specs

i dont think it would fly too well anyway without gyro...

does anyone know if you can run multiwii on these pirate boards or your have to run their firmware ?

Well, maybe but I will never buy from GLB directly. They have a store on eBay and if I do purchase from them, it will be via eBay because of the Buyer Protection Program.

I never got mine,
bought it a while ago, when i started this thread and after some time they said they cannot get it from their supplyer,
so they refunded me.

later I bought this one with new processor,
Image
but week later, still not shipped,

like they have them listed but not available to sell :(
(time will tell if it was luck after all, if it gets to me, I reckon it might be better than this mega board cause of faster proc and more sensitive baro, and MPU looks promising also )

by the way,
this is their ebay acc?
http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?item=140 ... ter&_rdc=1

there is no Mega pirate or this stm32 board available...
seems to me like it's better to buy there then, they list ony what they really have,
because of ebay customer protection :)

I bought mine from GLBs eBay shop (GadgetExtreme) - it arrived pretty quickly and has become my favourite flight controller. The IMU (freeimu 0.3.5bmp clone) is 100% rock solid and Mag functions are perfect.

If you can get hold of one I really recommend it. I noticed they have also released another purple Mega board called 3M pilot. It seems to be a fair bit more expensive though.

This is even cheaper with modern sensor used 0.4.3 MS

It seems china multiwii FC is price war.
