MultiWii Pro Arming Issue

Post by alexjblake »

Hello everyone,

Firsty a thanks to all the information that I have read by everyone who's posted on here...you've kept me from throwing a lot of things around.

However, I'm having huge issues getting my Quadcopter to arm!

My current setup is:

Multiwii Pro Board - Running MultiWii 2.3
QBrain 20A ESC - Calibrated
Flysky fs9 th9x & reciever
4 x 900kv motors

So I've got everything connected up with all the right pins connected up and showing up as results in WinGUI. Ranges from around 970 to 1980 on the flight data boxes. I've been trying to arm it by having throttle all the way down and either pushing the yaw or roll to the right to arm and left to disarm. On the MultiWii Pro itself an LED changes from nothing to bright red when arming and back to off when disarming but in the GUI there is no change in the ARM box, so I know something is happening but I don't get any motor output! Frustrating!

I've uploaded my ardunio config here : https://www.dropbox.com/sh/9gtnwnpu6z69 ... E2ULTG0pSa

And attached some photos :

I will be so grateful to anyone who can come up with a solution to this it's driving me crazy (I'm new to the quadcopter game) and slowly I'm losing faith!

There's a beer or a giftcard up as a token of goodwill to the person who can solve my problem!

Alex

RC values must not be lower than 1000 nor higher than 2000.

970 is not a good value.

1) The config.h you have uploaded is stock, did you uploaded the correct one ?
2) When moving the FC around you see the GUI updating ? Like the virtual horizon for instance.
3) Which board do you have ? Could you please post the motor connections.

1 : Apologies for the wrong config.h
I've uploaded a copy here : https://www.dropbox.com/s/4y2aet5rzb8hvz3/config.h

2 : I do get results from the gyro and they show up as being active on the Flight Deck.

3: It's one of these... http://www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking/st ... odule.html
Running Multiwii 2.3 on Ardunio 1.5.7

Update : I have managed to get the arm box to change on the WinGUI Flight Deck by assigning it to an AUX channel but there's still no output to the motors... :@

Please double check again as it seems a default config.. there is no "The type of multicopter" option selected nor "Combined IMU Boards". I have the same board as you do, you need to uncomment the FFIMUv2 line.

Before going further please post the correct config.h.

Hi there,

I have uploaded the config.h file as a text file because for some reason it won't show the things that I've defined....there's definitely things uncommented.

OK now I was able to see it and it seems a rather valid config for the board.
When you say "ESC calibrated" did you use the ESC_CALIB_CANNOT_FLY config.h option ?

I used the small hub that connects all four wires to the one throttle channel, such as is outlined in this video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVt5GgZE3AA

I've managed to assign arming the device to an AUX switch which seems to be fine for now and I can have some control over the motors but they don't all spin at the same the same rate. Aka one motor starts to spin up then a another as the throttle switch is moved up....would trying the ESC_CALIB_CANNOT_FLY might fix?

Thank you all for your help so far!

Yup, config.h has four options that affects the throttle channel and the ESC must be callibrated to those values. You should activate ESC_CALIB_CANNOT_FLY and upload it to you FC, REMOVE THE PROPS, power everything from the main battery and wait one minute or so. Then disable ESC_CALIB_CANNOT_FLY and upload the fw again.

So I gave the ESC_CALIB_CANNOT_FLY a go by uploading it to the board and then turning it on. The motors went max on and then off, left it for a minute. Turned it off and back on, no motor spin this time. So I disabled it and re-uploaded it but the same thing again.

Here's a video of what I mean : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWAgmmh ... Qb4Wk7tUIQ

Everything else works as I would have expected with the roll and pitch etc.
