Uncontrolable Quad

Post by FJB »

Dear People,

I am what you might call a total rookie on quadcopters. Nevertheless I have tried building one.
After a long weekend of work I managed to put my machine up in the air. First without auxiliary functions and after a bit of tuning also the angle, baro and mag function were fully discovered. The quad finally seemed to fly well when I decided it was time for a hard crash. Because my battery was low as well I could not fly (or see if it still worked) any further. During the battery charging, I discovered you could upload the config.h according to HK instructions for the board. Untill then I was flying with the pre-installed firmware.
I am using the following multiwii board from HK:

I used the following instructions:

After the battery was fully charged again I had another go at flying, however it is now uncontrollable and I can't get more than a few seconds time airborne out of the quad. The videos below show two attempts with and without angle option. Now there might be two explanations for the issues. Either the flight controller is broken or the firmware was incorrectly programmed/uploaded. I suspect it is the firmware as the board is pretty good protected against hard landings and all other components were still operational.
Hopefully someone can tell from the videos which one it is. I have put on new props, checked all the motors for good operation and re-calibrated the board a few times. Nothing seems to work though. Unfortunately I do not have a saved original firmware of the board.

Many thanks in advance for your help

Did you re-calibrate the ACC after the firmware change? You said you recalibrated the board. Did you mean the ACC? Was the craft perfectly level when calibrating the ACC? (If you did that) Did you download that antiquated software on the HK link and use it? What you want is Arduino 1.6.8 https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software and multiwii version 2.4
( https://code.google.com/archive/p/multiwii/ ).
Now go read THOROUGHLY the info at this link http://www.multiwii.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page#Beginners_Guide
There is no way to save what was on it unless you saved it to a file in Win GUI somehow. You have overwritten the installed firmware and need to set everything up again including your PIDs. Your best bet is to run an EEPROM clear sketch and then upload the 2.4, then learn how to set it up at that link.
