GPS Gone MAD!

Post by HawkGhost2010 »

Hello all again, so just recently upgraded my fc from the pro328 to the MEGA2560, (Mulriwii pro) however I'm still having the same issue with the GPS, the copter arms and even flys good when I have the GPS completely disconnected, however once I plug it in it works alright (indoors get 9 sat connections) and even gives me a pretty good location fix even indoors, but when I arm the hex, the GUI is showing the helicopter is spinning on all axis and just going crazy even tho it is still on a level surface and hasn't moved, once I disarm it, the gui looks like the pic attached, with loads of I2C Errors, please help me to fix this friends.

I've heard of a shield for these guys to protect against the power lines, if this is my issue whats the best product to use, or the most essayist to make/use/buy.

All help is welcomed.

I2C errors usually indicate that something is not connected properly. I'd check that first, just to make sure.

The i2C error count isn't lying to you, there is definitely an issue somewhere.

Begin by disconnecting one device off the i2C bus at a time till it stops.

What could the issue be, I mean before I arm the board, it works just fine with no I2C errors, but once I arm it with the GPS connected it dose this. I am using an I2C board that I got from my MWC Multiwii fc v 2.5 off ebay, but now using a Multiwii and Megapirate AIO Flight Controller, found at

I've been reading its possible to connect the GPS directly to the board with out the I2C board? Dose anyone have any ideas on how to do this correctly, such as how to wire it up, and any coding changes?

If that is the flight control board you are using then from what I have been told (I am using the same setup) you need the supplied I2C board between the GPS and the flight controller for it to work.

Yup I got it all working so far, I'm going to wait till later and give an update if it works when its connected to the ESC's, (I brought it to work to tinker with it haha slow day), I'm also using this

https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/sto ... duct=42264

haha so as of right now I have an LCD screen running off the I2C port, then got the above link plugged in and its running GPS of X2 and Bluetooth off X1 (If you buy this board you have to switch pins around, as multiwii dose not support X3 yet...), and a 3DR telemetry link radio off the FTDI socket. haha this thing is awesome, I hope it flys good latter.

I'm flying a S550 frame, with the hex legs, EMAX 1200KV motors running 8x4 props. Thing is crazy quick, and climbs altitude like superman hahaha. Using a 3C 4S 5000 Lipo battery.

FengShuiDrone, do you know what the purpose is for the A0, A1, A3, A4, and A5 pins are? I was thinking these might be analog pins? Possible uses?

I've already been wrong about the analog pin's on the 2560 based FC's before but my best guess is they're input's for monitoring individual cell voltages (using the balance plug of your battery).

Having said that DO NOT connect voltages to them directly, they'll all need their own individual configured voltage dividers.

Well just as an update, I did manage to get it all sorted out, getting rid of the I2C board saved it big time.
