MultiWii Stability Problem

Post by unknown1 »

Hi folks!!
ive done it again and got myself in way to deep with a hobby i dont really have any knowledge of!! But loved the idea and had to get one! slightly regreting it now though after nearly taking out a horse in the field behind my house!!! and more importantly snapping the motor arm of the quad!!! but not as bad as i was expecting (got me over the first flight jitters!!) now to why i think i had a problem flying the thing! it seems that after any input from the yaw or pitch stick does not correct its self once back to the central position??? is this normal?? as if i left it at would just drift away unless i try to correct it which then its at some distance with no camera set up for a beginner is rather difficult  i did intend to keep it near by but before you know its miles away lol!! it also wondered in gps hold but i would just be glad to get to the bottom of the first problem i know now there is so much to learn on these things any help would be very much appreciated!!!

CHEERS!!!!!!

ps could do with knowing a good place for spares
multiwii v 2.2 i think
on a dji f 450 i think
with gps

what you have <had> is a quad in acro mode, there is no recentering or level going on in acro mode.

in the GUI you would assign a switch on your TX to turn on angle mode, which levels your copter when you let go of the sticks, do some forum searches for these terms and read up while waiting for your arms.

I believe they have the arms you want. they are located in the states in Florida (local to me)

hi tovrin
cheers for the reply!! ive pluged in today with the gui and nothing anywhere states any acro mode!! how would i activate it of not in this case!!!! im going to try and upload a picture of the gui!!! ive just noticed that there is an angle section i can assign to a aux switch!!! could i set this on aux 1 which already has arm on it?? so that it is in this mode all the time as my other aux is set to horizon, baro, head free and gps hold does this sound ok to you??? cheers again

acro mode is default mode when you are not in angle/horizon mode. it simply means the quad is only using the gyro, and not the acc. it will maintain whatever position you put it in until you change it to another. this is used for most flying applications. i fly almost exclusively in acro mode.

angle/horizon mode are auto leveling modes, when you let go of the sticks it returns to level. there is a bit of tuning/trimming that is required for these modes to work right, so it generally a good idea to get your copter flying well in acro mode first. a well tuned level mode with good sensors and the right weather can help you hold position quite well, great for photography, etc.

yeah you should fly on Angle mode - it's the easiest mode to fly with.
if you still have drifts, then you should adjust your ACC, of course after you did ACC calibration in the GUI.

how to adjust the ACC to compensate on drifts:
form the MW FAQ:
Give full throttle (must be >1900)
With the help of your roll and pitch stick you could now trim the ACC mode.
full PITCH forward/backward and full ROLL left/right (2 axis possibilities) will trim the level mode according to the neutral angle you want to change.
The status LED will blink to confirm each ticks.

another good and easy way of trimming is by doing ACC calibration while the board is not 100% level, see in the link at 04:45 min and you'll understand.

BTW you can arm the board by moving throttle down and right rudder for few sec. this way you can save aux channel from Arm...

hi guys well!!! after rebuilding the quad took it for its first flight with angle mode on and it was a massive improvement (many thanks!!!!) however this resulted in me being more confident and flying further away only approx 500m max from home which was all good at first i sent it up quite high not touching the clouds, but high in my opinion. i began to lower throttle to bring it in when it started to fall and did not stop even at full throttle until the obvious happened!!! and the hunt to find it began!! luckily found it with only a snaped prop however it left my confidence damaged much worse!! does anybody have any idea why this would happen my battery is a 2200mah 11.1v which was fully charged prior to flight with a b6 on balance mode at 2.2a ahhhhhh!!! i wouldnt say that the quad had been in the air for 5-10 mins max steady hovering!!! when i found it after around 20 mins of looking the small fan on thefpv tx heat sink was spinng so slow you could see the blades i would of thought that obviouysly the battery has had it does this seem normal for such a short flight? the guy i had it off said that this battery would last approx 20+ mins? and that i would be able to tell if it was going flat? there was no signs of it being low atall!!!! any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! and does anybody know of sumbody local to stoke on trent who i would gladly pay to check it over as at the moment ide be better off just burning my wallet for entertainment!!

20 minutes on 2200mah? sincerly doubt it. i get about 8-10 on mine using 2200 on a 900gram copter.

you need a lipo alarm buzzer, or to use the buzzer feature that MW uses.

http://witespyquad.gostorego.com/access ... nitor.html

is your fpv use the same battery as the copter? that will also drain the battery quicker. (i dont use fpv or gps)

http://www.ecalc.ch/xcoptercalc.htm?ecalc&lang=en

this has been a great tool for me to use on my builds, its not perfect but will give you a good idea of what to expect in flight time and thrust.

It is alot more stable now but still does not rth ill try to get a shot of my gui on here if you wouldnt mind having a look? And would you recommend running it with my 5000 mah battery? Ill weigh the quad asap aswell!!

Can you send me your settings? I have the same quad and software version, I have stability issues and maybe your settings will give me a hint to where to go with mine.
