Quad flips during takeoff

Post by P4radigm »

I have already broke two motor mounts on my X525 frame during half a dozen attempts to take off. I did calibrate all my ESCs (they were way off before) but in the multiwii gui it looks like two motors are spinning faster, but they are on opposite corners (e.g. front left, back right spin slower).

This is my exact problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMCxE1ouEx4 (NOT my video, but identical problem and same frame, I think)

hard to see for certain in your video, but it looked like your motors are not spinning in proper direction.

make sure that you are using to ccw and 2 cw props with motors spinning as shown above.
also make sure that your ESC's all have their min/max calibrated identically.

As I said in my post. That wasn't my video, just one with the same problem. That said, thank you for your help. The diagram made me think to recheck all my wires, because I unplugged them when programming the escs. Sure enough, I had the Escs wired wrong.

I was able to tweak the trim by throttling it up to the point one side would lift up. I then go it to hover but ended in a flip as I was too low and not too good at flying it. I quickly set it up again and got it to lift off 20 feet up, hover for a minute, and then set it down gently enough.

I broke a motor mount on that first flip, though, and now I'm waiting on the glue to dry again. Thank you for your help. I was about to give up on it.

I was helping a friend of mine recently with this problem. In his situation, he had the front and back motor connections reversed. Front left was connected to the rear left connection (D11 on his board), rear left was connected to the front left connection (D3).

In the picture above, he had swapped 3 <--> 11 and 9 <--> 10.

I figured it out after looking in the MultiWii Config and seeing the motor speeds according to the board and seeing the ones that were speeding up were reversed front to back.
