I have just started buying the parts for my first quad and want to use a multiwii board with the option of gps once i get the hang of it what board would anyone recomend i am limited to a 50x50 size board due to the frame.

Buy a Crius AIOP V2 & you won't regret it. Unless you can mount it high enough away from strong magnetic fields also buy an external Mag or GPS/Mag combo.
