MultiWii wiki - maintenance - who and how?
MultiWii wiki - maintenance - who and how?
Hi,
just curious how maintenance is done for the MultiWii wiki and by whom?
Reason for me asking:
after some vandalism I did a bunch of 'undo' plus some minor editing yesterday and today I find nothing of this in the wiki's history anymore. Instead it looks like a complete rollback to an earlier state was executed?
Not a problem by itself but I'd like to know who does the maintenance of the wiki and what the general procedures are. I do not want to waste/spend any more time on the documenation/wki than neccessary, especially if it is rendered obsolete by an administrative task.

Re: MultiWii wiki - maintenance - who and how?
There was some vandalism 2 or 3 days ago.
I saw you did some undo, but it was not clean enough: some traces were still there after your correction.
It looks ok, but it was not. Some parts in at least 3 pages were missing or replaced.
So I spent 1 or 2 hours to clean things properly in detail (it's not a general rollback as it looks like).
I modified also the database to erase the last vandalism logs as it's not possible with online tools.
No work is lost.
As it was not the first time it happens, I decided:
- to block any anonymous contribution
- to block new registration. any new account is possible, but after asking in this forum.

ok.
Right now, the main page of the wiki does not work - I was looking to add a note about registration if not already there.

I posted a problem with the wiki page a few days ago and was surprised that just anyone could go in and change something. When someone complains that there is no Multiwii documentation I send them to this page, and have referred to it myself many times. I like your solution as it shouldn't be an inconvenience to an honest contributor.
Thanks to Alex, Hamburger, and others for your many hours of work. The new Horizon and Acrotrainer Modes make flipping way too much fun, I built another Quad just for this purpose.

sorry for the inconvenience. I forwarded the account request to Alex. You should be good to go soon.
Welcome to this part of the show.

Re: MultiWii wiki - maintenance - who and how?
Could someone please fix the Flight modes page on the Wiki?
That chart is very confusing.
It seems to say that I do not need a Gyro or Accelerometer for GPS return to home ?! I seriously doubt that is correct.
Please fix.
Please update to 2.2 (or latest release version).
Also, it should use the same terminology as in MultiWiiConf.
It would also be nice if it showed exactly what boxes need to be checked in MWConf for each mode.
There are numerous posts that show that I am not the only person that is having problems understanding this.
I am willing to do some of the editing work if you give me write privileges.

Hi! You can ask Hamburger or Alexinparis for a wiki account..
Yes, it needs improvement. I've made a few minor changes.. but I may have just made it worse... it does need a more thorough workover. We also need to start indicating what levels of software you need or possibly hardware as some functions will only work with a Mega1280 or above.. the more people who contribute the better as long as it remains consistent and clear. When I have more time, I'll revisit it.. or you can join me in the discussion page/s on the wiki.

Thanks, felixrising -- a significant improvement.
Actually my thanks is on behalf of those who come after me, because I already struggled through it.

Yeah, if you see anything at all that needs improvement and have a suggestion for an edit, please share it here. If we can't figure out how something works (or is meant to work) from the source code, then we can go asking devs that do know... in any event, our learning experiences are best documented and shared with others.
A few things that I'd like to see on the wiki, and intend to get up there when I have some time, is a volunteer how-to page, including references to the README.txt on the code repo, and some elaboration on how to make code submissions, ensuring quality of the wiki including things like ensuring it doesn't date, or if it does, that it's clear what version those features belong to, etc.. more pictures, etc.. etc..
