Wrong polarity on NEO6

Post by crashlander »

Hello,
subject of this thread is unclear but couldn't find out better one....

So after many tries I succeeded to connect my GPS module wrong (inverted polarity) and the magic smoke escaped. I'm talking about Rabbit's NEO6 from GLB (http://www.goodluckbuy.com/rabbit-gps-r ... oller.html)
With my untrained eye it seems that big cap. burnt out (hope it is the only destroyed part). Can somebody check/advise what kind of cap. is it or if it is probable that the whole unit is gone and it makes no sense to repair it. I marked obvious part in the picture.

Thank you for your answers/suggestions!
Best Regards
Andrej

big chance you smoked the 3v reg then you need to replace it to, or else if you have 3.3v on youre FC think you can youse it(connect it to down side of reg), look's like you have two 3v reg one for backup and the other for power can't tell witch you have to use a multimeter

@Gimbal Thank you for answering!
I just found RCGroups thread about same issue: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthre ... 04&page=51
After just removing burned cap the borad came to life :?: (LED is on) and it seems I'm getting some 2.36V out of regulator (65z5).
Have to change that cap and probably regulator also....
