Rough servo- Needs 5.25v droped to 4.3v

Post by RCvertt »

How can I drop 5.25v to 4.3v?

I need to do it with parts from radioshack or Fry's electronics because I need to do it quickly. No time to order parts.

The reason I need to do this is I noticed my serv[1] runs perfectly smooth if my Arduino is powered from USB power and runs very rough when powered from my flight battery BEC.

With USB power I measured my servo source at 4.3v.
With UBEC I measured my servo source at 5.25v

I'm guessing my servos don't like the extra volt difference. I don't think the voltage has to be exactly 4.3 but somewhere around 4.5 at least. I also understand that using resistors only is a bad idea. So anyone know which voltage regulator from Fry's or Radio shack would work?

So if someone can tell me which of these adjustable voltage regulators will work and how to wire it up, I will give you my first born.

Get a diode which will drop (depending on the type) 0.7V.
However I think you are following a red herring here. I guess the voltage from the BEC has noise, while the USB is clean.

Thanks. Following your advice I am seeing good results with the voltage dropped down to (4.7v). Doesn't appear to be noise from the switching UBEC unless the diode is smoothing out noise from the UBEC?

More info on what is being done is here...
