Transmitter stick control

Noob question for quad control. I have a mode 1 9x and want to make sure I understand the sticks and what they are supposed to do
Left stick:
Stick up down is Elevator - controls what I call fwd and back
Stick left right is Rudder - should this control its ability to what I call turning on the spot (if hovering)?
Right Stick:
Stick up dn controls throttle -I get this one
Stick left right is Aileron -controls banking turns?

Do I understand the controls correctly?

Yes, that is Mode 1 sticks.
The other names for use on a Multi-rotor are:
Left- forward-back = PITCH
Left- right-left = YAW
Right- forward-back = THROTTLE
Right- right-left = ROLL
These are the names that appear in MultiWii documents and on the MultiWii Config program screen.
