Is it necessary to calibrate Simonk ESC? And if so, how?

Hi,
i have a question regarding the calibration of Simonk flashed ESC.
Is it necessary to calibrate them like if they were not flashed with simonk?
And is it good to calibrate them with the special nofly multiwii scetch? Or should i calibrate it
directly with the receiver?

Olaf

I have heard both ways, but when i calibrated mine they flew better...

i only use the MW sketch to calibrate for MW.

You don't need to calibrate ESC's with simonk FW. Just set in config.h minthrottle to 1064 and maxthrottle to 1864. This values are coded by default in simonk. But if you wan't more power, then set maxthrottle to 1950 and calibrate esc's.

But the i need to run the scetch with "define ESC_CALIB_CANNOT_FLY" once, don't i?

Hi olfried,
take the props off and flash with ESC_CALIB_CANNOT_FLY, after a few seconds the are calibrated.
Reflash without ESC_CALIB_CANNOT_FLY and you're done.

Kopinke and Scrat are right, be triply sure you remove those props, as there is a small possibility your motors will go full throttle when you do this.

So your motors did go full throttle? Never happened to me and I was calibrating ESC's like 40 times.

yup, i have a scar on my arm to prove it.

its only ever did it the once, but it was my big bird when it happened and it launched itself straight up and into my laptop bouncing off the screen (shattering it) glancing my arm and smashing into the wall, all within 2 seconds.
