Wanted: Motor for fun-flying, ~700g thrust@3S, 8"prop,1400kv

Post by Hamburger »

Hi,
I am in the market for a new set of motors but have not bought motors for some time now and would prefer to avoid the HK lottery (never know what qualitiy you get). So what brand or particular motors in the named range do you use and enjoy?
Target:
TRIcopter,
AUW incl. battery: 750g
3S battery,
small 8" props to fly in gusty wind
flying style: fun in the park, at the sea

I was looking for a motor with approx. specs
~700g thrust,
1400kv
if possible below 20A max.
below 50$ per motor

Any recommendations? Please fire away.

I know you said you didn't want to play the HK quality game. However I'll suggest these;

I have a set of 4 (plus one spare), I haven't had a quality issue with Aerodrive motors yet....

Just ran it threw ecalc, says it'll exceed the max 160Watts at full power but not by much, and not quad copter should be at full power for any length of time...

**EDIT; Should have mentioned, currently using them with 2Cell on a quad weighing 850g all in on 8x4.5 props, i'm not doing 3cell (yet) as my ESC's are only 10Amp. I'll be upgrading them and removing some weight turning it into my acro go to....

Dan at gobrushless is awesome to work with, Ive had him replace all 4 shafts on my acrobird motors (because i bent them all in a single crash) for $10 total, including shipping.

these particular motors produce 800g thrust on 8x4 props on a 3cell battery.

thanks for the suggestions.
Anyone have experience with SunnySky motors? The new X2212-9 KV1400 II Brushless Motor would fit my purpose.

Hamburger, I have 4 of them with 980kv. I bought them a few days ago so I didn't fly them. But I try them on my desk? They are running very quiet, I feel no vibrations in my hand. In the opposite I try HK motors and I feel the vibrations. I think Sunnysky are fine.

I bought it on Eb_y from China.
Btw. one thing what is not so good with this motors, you don't have any spare parts. I ask several dealers, no one has them. So may be it is a good idea to by one motor for spare parts. E.G. Drotek in France sells Sunnysky.

finally, I went for this HP2212-1450KV (from rctimer again)
http://www.rctimer.com/index.php?gOo=go ... oodsid=856
because they have low line prop adaptors for those motors http://www.rctimer.com/index.php?gOo=go ... oodsid=821
and sunysky have only the airplane style prop adaptors

How do those adapters work? Do they slide over the shaft of the motor?

I do not yet have received any. But yes, that is what I expect how it works - rctimer sell those specifically for those motors. sp there must be a way? There is nothing on the backside to attach it to. At worst, I will have to dremel off the original shaft and bolt on the new adaptors (I think I saw holes on the top of the motor where the screws through the prop adaptors could go.

I used aeronaut prop adaptors some time ago, those slid over the original shaft as well - but rely on two grub screws (and threadlock) for fixation.
