Sum PPM Data Stream

Question, what is the maximum number of channels a Sum PPM Data Stream can handle? In other words, if for example, using a custom built transmitter/receiver, is it possible to have 24 or 32 channels? Not saying this is desirable, just curious.

in theory, i think virtually unlimited. however, frame period (and response to a channel change) increases proportionally with the number of channels.
