How can I Flash my ESCś?

Post by m00se »

Hello,

Im new to this forum and I have been looking around to find out how to flash ESCs. I have some hobbyking blue series ESCs on order with a Turnigy 9x radio system.

I have found some youtube vids on flashing the firmware on the radio system. i cant find anything to help me with the escs.

can anyone give me a pointer? i would like to read up on how to do it before they arrive so that i can learn the theory.

Thanks in advance

it works great.

however, the challenge is to find escs that still have the atmel processor, all the recent turnigies have switched to silabs, which is incompatible.

an esc is simple to make right? maybe someone could make an esc for multiwii copters.

as i understand it you have a chip for controlling the pwm signal, some fets for ramping the signal level up and a couple of caps for helping out with high current peaks.

cant someone just copy one of the old atmel based escs? maybe i should give it a go

There are several project that work on building ESCs - consider joining forces with one of them before creating yet another one:

http://open-bldc.org/wiki/Open-BLDC
http://ng.uavp.ch/moin/Documentation/Co ... GBLC-4mini
http://andreasbaier.de/index.php/en/herkules-2
http://home.versanet.de/~b-konze/ur_blmc/ur_blmc.htm

The OpenPilot folks are also working on an ESC project, but it's not publicly available yet. However, they have an excellent page that documents how to flash ESCs with an alternative Firmware: http://wiki.openpilot.org/display/Doc/RapidESCs

Indeed! Sorry about that - I just learned about that project after I sent my last post :)
I see that this work is based on Quax' firmware as well, so did Simon Kirby for his RapidESC project. I wonder if there is potential for collaboration and sharing of code/ideas here.

Looks like I'll bite the bullet soon and flash my HK SS20 ESCs :)

Awesome, that's good to know! Open Source FTW. Now the question begs: what's the difference between these two firmwares? Which one would I choose for my HK SS20 ESCs, for example?
