There seems to be quite a few people making wooden frames. Hobby king
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... duct=16583
could be torsionally stiffer in the arms but it does the job
the entire frame with battery is 730g and *almost* didnt need any tuning at all (reduced the stock 4.0P value to 3.8)
Open source models:

i have cleaned up these models and assmbled them into solidworks that i will post later since people can use this to cut aluminium frames.
Wooden frames...
Re: Wooden frames...
I saw a video of someone flying this frame. He lost controlled at about 1m above the ground and one arm was broken. It seems pretty cheap.

Hi,
I had built the version 1.5 from RCExplorer and it flies very good. The handling is awesome and the repairs are easy to make.
Mine has a arm length from motor axis to CG of 40 cm. the weight including battery (3S 2200mAH) is about 760 g. The body is made with 2 mm plywood and is never broken. The arms are in pinewood square 10x15 mm.
Regards

Re: Wooden frames...
that square pine is amazing stuff, takes a prety decent beating, splits can be patched with some CA and a half a dozen new booms cost $5. the center section of my tri is just a thin piece of ply cut with a holesaw so all in all my frame costs >10
