Ok, we've all done things like that.
Not test, test, test so you know exactly what to expect from the Failsafe.
Hint: in the MWconf.exe gui you can now set the mini throttle and the FS THR from the 'SETTINGS" tab.
Do ensure the copter will decend with the FS THR value.

If you just adjust the values in the MWconf.exe gui then you will see what the increment is.

Does the Device Manger see the Com Port????
Are you sure that board has an FTDI USB chip? and not some other chip?
Did you try a different USB cable??? Most of the USB cable for Cell phones, etc only have the power wires and no data wires so these do not work.

Re-check that you have the correct board type and programmer selected in the Arduino IDE.
Info on this should be in the nanowii document.

That seems unusual.
Connect the USB and run the MWconf.exe gui. Check that all the stick values are correct.
The FS threshold should check only the first four RX channels.
If you comment out the FailSafe and re-load the code can you Arm?

Yep, and then you can adjust the RC rate and RC expo to tame down the stick movements. Also could add some Throttle Expo around the hover throttle position.
I assume you are running BaseFlight on the Naze32 which is a port from MultiWii code so go read how to make adjustments in MW then apply to BF.

Was the copter level ( checked with a bubble level) when doing the ACC cal?
If you did then next thing to try is:
Load and run the clear_EEPROM arduino sketch and then re-load the MultiWii code.
If this does help then very possible the board is bad.

This really sounds like a Windows OS problem but there could be an FC hardware problem.
