No issues here running PCLinuxOS.
Just installed arduino0022 from the repositories and it works.

You installed the software to the Arduino, so I think, the usb connection is working.
Recheck your connections acc. to the circuit diagram.
I only can emphasize putting the components first on a breadboard for a test ...
