My recommendation is to switch to INAV (https://github.com/iNavFlight/inav/wiki). It does everything MutliWii can do and more.
You will need a new FC but the switch is worth it. I've since moved on to INAV and Betaflight.
For sentimental reasons I will keep one MW quad copter as it is still a lot of fun to fly.

MultiWii 2.4 and uBlox NEO M8N
I'm posting this for those who are still flying MultiWii (anyone???) and have wondered if the latest uBlox GPS receivers work. I have the same board as you. I had to use an external MAG and keep it about 120mm away from all wires. Onboard MAG is deactivated.

Steve,
you will have to solder the GY to the MB with wires as follows:
5V -> VIN
OR
3V3 -> 3V3
AND
GND -> GND
AND
SDA -> SDA
AND
SCL -> SCL

I won't be able to help you much but the first thing I'd do is to remove all the cables and devices from the board.
With only the board itself hook it up to the computer via USB and try uploading the code again.

That's great news! However, for the record. Your prior setup should have worked just the same. I would guess that you have a defect on your FC board. You are wondering correctly because you don't need a FTDI cable to program this board!!
Just use a standard micro USB cable and plug that into the USB socket on the board and the other end to your USB port on the computer.
