"but it seems to me that it's just way over compensating."

Seems the answer is obvious, "D" is too high in pitch.

MultiWii Internal Code Structure

Hey, any of the heavy software guys know if the mathamatical weighting process', (PID) are in the forward "push" side of the loop or in the error feedback side ?? The effects wold be markedly different if so. An increase in "I", for instance, (integration), would yield a "sl...

Mine doesn't either. On either of the 2 GUI applications, for that matter. I'm pretty certain that's the was it is supposed to work. The green vertical "spike" on this same graph slides with adjustment of throttle mid-point, but no TX throttle position is shown. It does appear in the upper...

Re: FPV with TWO CAMERAS ?

Actually, on an electrical level, this is a much simpler task. In proper video parlance a "switcher". If the change-over doesn't have to be syncronous, meaning a tear or roll would appear during switch-over, it is very simple. A simple CD4066 switch with the command line driven off a decod...

Too weird, on mine the yaw axis is the most stable. Only an occasional nudge to keep it true. On mag hold, absolutely rock.

Re: copter oscillates sometimes

If those "P" values are for gyro (i.e. pitch and roll), even the lower value may be too much for a light 400. Try the stock of 3.3 or maybe 3.0.

I wondered too. I was able to research that it stands for "Debug", beyond that, I have no clue. I've never seen any values pop up in those windows either, but then I've never had any issues.

Re: Chaning the refresh PPM refresh rate

Most ESCs that "Beep continously" are signalling an invalid input command from the flight controller. I.E. the throttle channel isn't below the ready-to-arm value or there's no pulse of any sort present at all. This has nothing to do with refresh rate, MW's refresh rate of 400Hz is OK for ...

Re: Quadcopter, too hard to control.

"I increased the P and D values to 6 and 30 and reduced the I value to .020" I'll assume this is MW V2.2 and these P/D changes are for gyro, i.e. Pitch and Roll axes. If so, I don't think they're near correct for a 600. You don't state an all up weight, from the video I'd guess yours is fa...

In correct video parlance, a "split-screen". I've never seen an split screen device tailored for FPV, (light, small, low power consumption, etc), but it doesn't mean there isn't one out there somewhere.

Re: Motors are not running

MultiWii is not arming the motors. They are held in an "Off" state by the FC until they are "armed". It's a safety thing, prevents motors from starting up on FC boot, and chopping your hand up with twirling props. The beeps you hear merely mean the ESCs have reached a "ready...

Re: MultiWii roadmap for 2.3

What would be really neat is to have a "dynamic default PID stuffing" function in the Config or wherever. Meaning, instead of a single set of default PID values, there would be several, each roughly optimized for a range of various size/weight aircraft. Certainly, someone setting up an 10 ...

Re: Throttle mid-point tuning?

Jerbs: I agree and had just about reached the same conclusion, I suspect my next bird will have a Woo Kong in it, not MW. As far as the PID tuning goes, it would help a bunch to know the type of instability you experience, size of the bird, all up weight, and maybe props. Then we can compare notes w...

Re: level mode slow to return to level position

If you're not using Horizon or Level modes, to the best of my knowedge, only the gyro(s) are in-play here. So... gyro calibration on boot may be an issue. Try making absolutely sure aircraft is level on boot (at battery connect). Or... do a stick-initiated gyro cal after boot and see if this affects...

Re: MultiWii 2.2 Alt hold shoots up while flying

Is this *only* with Alti-hold engaged, or any time you get off the sticks ??? If it's only with hold, I'd guess PIDs for A.H. may need twiddling, at least I'd try that first. I'm aware that one is supposed to only activate alti-hold after reaching the desired hover point, but I have left it latched ...

If you're going to any kind of photography, a cross (+) configuration places one boom clearly in the cameras field-of-view with any sort of reasonably wide-angle lens. With an X, two booms appear only in very rare cases of hyper-wide lens'. Other than that I'm not aware of any advantages or disavant...

Re: Solve yaw problem once and for all.

Yup, this is one of the reasons the "Y" configuration is so popular in tricopters. Hard to beat that vectored thrust on the butt-end for statically or dynamically canceling any yaw moment generated by the front two rotors. Any sort of yaw action is easily canceled by cranking the rear roto...

Re: Solve yaw problem once and for all.

It would probably help to describe the yaw related issue to which you are refering. Is it a low-speed drift issue in hover, a "corkscrew" in rapid climbs or descents, a jerky instability in any flight mode, yada, yada, yada ? Smaller props shouldn't help as it gives the motors more authori...

Tnx, I will review this document. I have since determined it is the "Postiton Hold Rate" that needed tweaking. Lowered Proportion (Loop Gain) to 0.10, from 0.11, and Derivitave to 0.35, from 0.45. If the wind will stop, we'll see if we're in the ballpark.

Re: Throttle mid-point tuning?

Wow, I find some of these answers odd as I have ended up in a totally different set-up. In reality there is no "down-throttle", Mother Nature supplies the down part, it's gravity, and it's always there. Logically we want to spread the amount of usable "up" across a wide range of ...

V2.2 Pos Hold tweak issue

All the 2.2 guys: In the native MWconfig tool's "PID-Grid", for pos-hold there are three sets of PID values shown, Pos, PosR, and NavR. Which is what ?? The aircraft exhibits a wobble-like oscillation when in pos-hold and on-station, tends to indicate "P" (loop gain) is too high....
